The Spirit of Christmas
By: Nancy Tillman
At first glance, The Spirit of Christmas is just another cute Christmas rhyming book. But upon closer inspection, the book brings to the surface a deeper reflection on what really makes Christmas, well, Christmas.
Is it the decorations? The treats? The songs? Santa Claus? No, Christmas is more than just these things.
With sweet subtly, Nancy Tillman reminds us, “Remember, this all began with a child. Because it took nothing but love to begin it, it’s not really Christmas if love isn’t in it.”
To some, The Spirit of Christmas might be a nod that Christmas is about the birth of our Savior, and to others, it might be a reminder that Christmas is less about the things and more about the people. Regardless of which interpretation you choose, we can all agree that the central message of Christmas is love.
Who it is for
Although a board book designed for children, The Spirit of Christmas speaks to the child in each of us. In a season where we can often get carried away, Tillman’s words point us back to what really matters.
What we love
With beautiful illustrations, poetic nature left open to interpretation, and the way the words seem to tug on our every heartstring, there’s just something special about The Spirit of Christmas.
And that is why we chose The Spirit of Christmas as our recommended resource for this year's Christmas in the NICU/PICU Book Drive.
